"We're lucky enough to have many fantastic local food producers in and around the Portsmouth area. As a former Great British Bake Off contestant, I'm a complete foodie and into good quality produce which for years I've found it really hard to access especially when we all have such busy lives. Over the past year, I've been really looking into what is available locally and I've been amazed at the quality and diversity of the produce. There's a problem though - many of us have very busy lives so we don't have time to find quality local food producers and local producers don't have the skills or resources to get into the local market.
I set up Be Locals to solve this problem, to create a local market that connects local consumers with local producers. Why does so much of our food have to travel so far when it is available on our doorstep? Consuming local food is good for the environment by reducing food miles, it supports our local producers and the local economy, the quality is fantastic because it comes directly from the growers and producers and is ready immediately for consumption. That's what Be Locals is all about.
On May 24th I'm holding a food-tasting event at the Pavilion, Canoe Lake Leisure for the public to come and taste some of the local producers I have sourced. I'll be cooking up a storm and showcasing the produce from a local farm. There may even be a little 'Bake-Off' treat for attendees!
An e-commerce website (www.belocals.uk) will go live on launch day giving people from the Portsmouth area the opportunity to purchase local produce and Be Locals will deliver it to your home as that convenience is essential for modern life.
Over time, I plan to add more local producers to give the public access to more great local produce from the Portsmouth area. I hope people will come along to the event and check out the website."
