Come and enjoy our Summer of Sherlock events programme, from Sherlock's chemistry lab to a game of footie with Doyle, there's enough here for any budding detective!
1st August - Portsmouth Museum - Sherlock Science - 11am - 3pm - Families
A science extravaganza! Come and see some wonderful theatrical experiments in Sherlock's chemistry lab
1st August - Brook Club, Somerstown Hub - Whodunnit - 6pm - 8pm - 11 - 16 year olds
Codebreaking, chemistry and fingerprints and nothing like school!
2nd August- Portsea Youth Club, John Pounds Centre - Football with a difference - 5pm - 7pm - 11 - 16 year olds
A game of footie with a different twist - find out what surfing, cricket balls and bowling have in common!
10th August - Paulsgrove & Wymering Youth Club - Sherlock on TV - 1 - 3pm - 11 - 16 year olds
Presenting the oldest of scripts using the most modern of technology! Back stage or in front of the camera - all welcome!
13th August - Cosham Library - 'Arthur's War - The Great Debate' 4pm - Adults
Looking at Arthur Conan Doyle's relationship with the Boar War, come along for a lively entertaining debate!
15th August - BYAC, Charles Dickens Activity Centre - SFX Make-up - 6pm - 8.30pm - 11 - 16 year olds
Scars, wounds or a different face are all possible here!
16th August - Round Tower, Hot Walls, Old Portsmouth, Sherlock's Poisons - 6pm - 7pm & 8pm - 9pm - Adults

Calling all explorers! A free interactive story-telling show based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s travel adventures.
Not just a stuffy old writer, he was also an explorer  - and an adventurer! Did you know he spent 6 months working as a surgeon on a whaling ship? Whoa! Or that he and his family travelled to Egypt, Australia and across the USA? 
He also spent a year in Vienna studying ophthalmology? Hang on! What’s ophthalmology?!
Join us for a fun adventure across the globe… with singing, dancing and plenty of audience participation.
Suitable for children ages 4+ and their families.

Indonesian fried spring rolls (Lumpia Goreng)

I don't often make Indonesian food because the ingredients are hard to find, but our local supermarkets are getting better at stocking ethnic ingredients. In the frozen section of Tesco, near the samosas, you can find the spring roll pastry.  Don't bother asking the branch in Chester. I was laughed at by the cashier when I asked for spring roll skin, because 'skin' is what we call the wrapper in Indonesian. Her more helpful colleague offered me filo pastry instead, which can be a good substitute. I'm afraid no one in Chester has yet to taste my amazing spring rolls as a result. ‘Southsea dinosaur’ returns

Luna Park 2021, an eagerly anticipated new public artwork for Portsmouth designed by internationally renowned artists Ivan Morison and Heather Peak of Studio Morison will be launched on 2 October 2021 on a celebratory day in Southsea Common.  The 1.4 metres bronze sculpture is a tribute to the original 53-foot high 2010 artwork Luna Park, which tragically burned down on Southsea Common. The artists will unveil a new sculpture that responds to ten years of public demand to ‘bring back the Southsea Dinosaur’.  The new public artwork will be located within a direct sightline to the position of the original Luna Park sculpture. It will sit on top of a fossil Portland stone plinth with a QR code which when scanned with a smartphone will connect to an Augmented Reality experience. People will be transported to a digital rendering of the original artwork, seemingly standing life-size in front of them on Southsea Common. Feature on Bubble&

Southsea has a monthly farmers market which I really love because Palmerston precinct where it's held becomes even more alive and buzzing. It is also a perfect opportunity to find some fresh or unusual local produce, that's not available in the local supermarkets.
