The Mary Rose receives lifeline grant from Government’s £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund

The Mary Rose, at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, has been awarded £655,304 as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure they have a sustainable future, the Culture Secretary has announced today. The Mary Rose is one of 1,385 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support. £257 million of investment has been announced today as part of the very first round of the Culture Recovery Fund grants programme being administered by Arts Council England. Further rounds of funding in the cultural and heritage sector are due to be announced over the coming weeks. 38 years ago (11 October) a dedicated team of divers and archaeologists raised the ship from the Solent, watched by an estimated worldwide audience of 60 million. Easter with the Tudor crew and Royalty at the Mary Rose

Following the revelations about the racial and cultural diversity of the crew of the Mary Rose seen on Channel Four’s documentary Skeletons of the Mary Rose: The New Evidence, the Mary Rose Museum has planned an Easter jam-packed with events to celebrate, between 6 and 22 April 2019. King Henry VIII himself will be gracing his favourite warship with his presence at various points in the holidays, bestowing guests with royal blessings or condemning them to death, depending on his will and whim. Visitors can join Henry VIII for a Royal Audience and listen to his first-hand account of the dramatic sinking of the Mary Rose. King Henry VIII invites you to experience Christmas traditions from his Royal Tudor Court. There will be dancing, merrymaking, magic and music. Throughout the museum you will meet characters from Henry’s court – jesters, courtiers, musicians and ladies in waiting.  Learn to dance like a Tudor lord and lady, learn to curtsy and bow, discover what Tudor music sounded like, find out what food the king would eat at Christmas and how the king’s jester made the court laugh.  Who know, you may even meet the King himself! Portsmouth students help promote City to cruise ship companies

Students from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries produced an innovative 360 degree video to promote Portsmouth’s world-class tourist attractions to some of the most important decision makers in the cruise ship industry at Europe’s premier cruise expo, Seatrade Europe . The video gives viewers the chance to get an all-round impression of some of Portsmouth’s most famous attractions. Portsmouth International Port is pushing for more cruise ship visits in the coming years and the video was part of a new #portsmouthtakesyouthere marketing campaign, highlighting a range of exceptional experiences offered in the City and on holidays from the port.
